Choice & Flexibility

PetCloud plays an important role in supporting NDIS Participants who have a love of pets to achieve positive outcomes and improve their physical and mental well-being.

There are 3 potential NDIS Funded Supports we offer in line with the goals in your NDIS Plan and your disabilities:

Ancillary Care during Hospital Treatment or Rehabilitation

This involves Home Visits to your home to feed and water pets, or, your pets will go and board at the home of a Support Worker.
NDIS Dog Walking

Animal Assisted Mentoring in the Community

This consists of including an animal (your dog) to help you in accessing pet friendly locations in the community, learning new skills, new social interactions and communication.

Assistance with Pet related Household tasks

A Support Worker will visit your home to assist you with tasks you need support with.

Case Study

Animal Assisted Mentoring in the Community, coupled with Assistance with Household Tasks can achieve powerful outcomes for Participants such as increased confidence and independence, social participation and inclusion, and can also lead to economic participation.

Generic dog walking, on its own, is not funded under the NDIS. However, if a Support Worker assisting or supervising you while you walk your dog is tied to your plan’s goals, it may be fundable support.
The distinction the NDIS draws is between funding the dog’s exercise (not covered) and funding a Support Worker’s assistance with a daily living task you’re building independence in (potentially covered). It’s genuinely case by case, which is why we recommend talking it through with your NDIS Bookings Coordinator rather than assuming either way.
A Support Worker helps with human centered supports. If having a Support Worker assist with dog-related tasks (walking, feeding, home visits, transport) is consistent with the goals in your NDIS plan, funding may potentially apply. PetCloud connects self-managed and plan-managed participants with trained, police-checked Support Workers for exactly this kind of support.
The NDIS doesn’t fund general pet care or the cost of owning a pet, that includes food, vet bills, and routine care unrelated to a disability support need. What it can fund is disability-related support that happens to involve your pet, like a Support Worker assisting with pet-related household hygiene tasks when those tasks are difficult for you to manage independently, or supervised Community access where your dog comes along.
Assistance animals (formally trained assistance or guide dogs) sit in a separate, more clearly fundable category. If that’s your situation, see our guide on [caring for an assistance dog as an NDIS participant].
Every NDIS plan is different, and eligibility depends on your goals, your funding categories, and how your plan is managed. The fastest way to get a clear answer is to speak with our NDIS Bookings Coordinator, who can talk through your plan with you and connect you with a Support Worker if it’s a fit. Testimonials

"As an amputee I was so happy when I found Befrin via PetCloud in July 2022. We love the support we receive from Befrin. She's always enthusiastic when she arrives and my dog Olie absolutely loves her. Befrin is friendly, reliable and comes every day that she is scheduled and I trust her wholeheartedly with him. Our family really appreciates her and we hope to have a long relationship with her. As a person with a disability it is very challenging, so to have this service available is wonderful."
