  • Your smiling face for your main profile photo and remember to take off those sunglasses
  • Two photos of your pet, a close up of their face and a full body photo
  • Don't include photos that are blurry or cropped poorly

Pet Owners do this by reserving the funds for the booking using a link sent to their inbox after a Pet Sitter has pre-approved their inquiry. It stays in the PetCloud PayPal account until the pet stay is over, and is then paid to the Sitter 24 hours after the last day of minding. Insurance cover will be included free and is activated for your pet and the Sitter during the stay. Daily photo updates of you pet will also be sent to you this way. Every booking helps feed shelter pets of our RSPCA Partners.

Is a 'Meet & Greet' important before a pet stay begins?

Absolutely!! Meet & Greet is important because of the following reasons:

  • You know that your pet gets along with the sitter
  • You are aware of the environment your pet is going to stay in (when pet sitting at sitter's place)
  • You can ensure that the Sitter's backyard meets the RSPCA backyard checklist
  • If the sitter is staying at your place, then it's important for you to know that you are comfortable with them staying at your place

How does booking work for Pet sitting

Here is how booking works:

  • You send a booking request to a Sitter
  • Pet Sitter accepts the booking request
  • You make the payment to the Pet sitter through PetCloud
  • You drop off the pet with the Pet sitter

Note: A booking is only confirmed after you have paid the Pet Sitter through PetCloud.

What do I need to do before a 'Meet & Greet'?

If you're preparing for a Meet & Greet at the Sitters Place, then:

  • Be Ready on Time - You shouldn't make the sitter wait for too long and you should stay for the whole Meet & Greet
  • Get Your Pet Ready - Make sure your pet is ready and is groomed properly before the meeting. You don't want your pet to give a bad impression on the first meeting
  • Your Pet's stuff - It is important that you go with your pet's favourite toy, treats, leash etc., so that you can show the sitter how to engage and take care of your pet
  • Property Check List - Make sure you have the RSPCA property guidelines with you printed out so that you can check if the containment area is appropriate for your pet

Meet & Greets can take place at a neutral location, such as a coffee shop or a park, and then where the stay is going to occur. For safety reasons, we recommend all Pet Owners to go on a Meet & Greet with a friend or let a friend know where you are going if you are visiting the Pet Sitters place.

Can Pet Sitters do Pet Sitting at my place?

Of course they can. At PetCloud we only allow pet sitters to do house sitting if they have had a background check. You can only make a booking with a pet sitter if they have the background check badge on their profile.

Why can't I share my contact details with the sitter while messaging?

At PetCloud, users are emailed the contact details of each other once a booking request has been accepted by the sitter.

When should I make a booking with a sitter?

If you like the sitter after the Meet & Greet, you should book them as soon as possible. Pet sitters might get booked out by other owners so make sure you lock them in.

When do I make the payment?

In order to make a booking you need to send a booking request to the sitter. As soon as the sitter accepts your booking request you will receive an email to make a payment to the sitter. There will also be a link on your inbox which says - Pay now.

A pet stay is only confirmed when you make the payment. We recommend that you make the payment as soon as possible otherwise the sitter has the freedom to change their rates or take another booking.

So don't leave payments to the last minute!

Why does PetCloud take 19% from the total amount?

At PetCloud we work hard to help you find your dream sitter and we deduct 19% to cover the cost of insurance, PayPal and admin costs.

What do I need to do before the pet stay occurs?

  • Current vet information
  • An emergency contact who can make decisions for the pet while you are away
  • Other important care information, such as feeding instructions, toileting routine, and exercise schedule
  • Your preference as to whether or not you want the sitter to contact you directly in the event of a query or emergency

What do I need to give the Pet sitter?

  • Crate (if crate-trained) and/or bed

For Victorian based Pet Owners with more than 2 pets: Victoria's Code of Practice for Home based Pet Sitting only allows up to 2 pets to be minded at a Sitter's home at one time. If you have more than 2 pets, your options through PetCloud are:

  1. Book a House Sitter to come and stay at your home

The Council responsible for your Suburb should appear, and your can investigate their website as to what they say about looking after the number of Pets.

What is the minimum age for pet boarding?

There is no minimum age for boarding at our Sitter's homes. However, will need to understand that until Puppies and Kittens have had all their vaccinations they have not yet developed much immunity to diseases and it is therefore recommended that they stay away from other vaccinated and unvaccinated dogs or cats (until 14-16 weeks of age). Diseases such as parvo virus can linger around in the soil up to 12 months after an infected dog has been there. You can lessen the risk by only taking your new pup or kitten to places that you know are safe. Stay away from public parks or areas where you know that lots of dogs defecate. The pup/kitten will have decent protection within a week of the second vaccine (likely given at 10-12 weeks of age), and very good protection after the third vaccine which will be given a month later 14-16 weeks.

Its very casual and usually only takes 15 minutes. Remind the owner to bring the pet along for the meet & greet as we find this eliminates almost all future problems.

Is Pet Sitting on PetCloud a business or a hobby?

The main thing that determines whether you are running a business is whether you are going about your activities in a businesslike manner. Some of the things that contribute to this are registering a business name, whether you have the intention of making a profit rather than just earning some income, have set up a separate bank account for the business, do you keep accounting records for the activities of the business, and whether you operate from business premises. Refer to the Australian Taxation Office website for more info or you may wish to call them on the Personal Tax Info Line 132 861 or the Small Business Info Line: 132 866.

If I want to make pet sitting my primary income and want to create a business through PetCloud do I need an ABN?

We have a number of sitters benefiting from additional income they have earnt pet sitting, but it is important to manage your business affairs properly. From information available as at 1 June 2016, whether you need to set up a business depends on how much you intend to earn. If pet sitting remains more of a hobby, then you may not need an ABN. But if you plan on carrying on an "enterprise" providing pet sitting services through a sharing economy app or website (such as PetCloud) then you will need to get an ABN. You will also need to register for GST if your turnover is, or is expected to be, $75,000 or more per year. Refer to the ATO website or you may wish to call them on the Personal Tax Info Line 132 861 or the Small Business Info Line: 132 866. And if in doubt talk to your accountant or a tax expert. And remember by using PetCloud you can keep all your receipts in one place, helping you manage your business simply and carefully.

What is the Australian legislation governing animal welfare?

There are no national laws applying to animal welfare, but all states and territories regulate animal welfare in their jurisdiction. What's the difference between being a Sitter and a Walker?

Dog Walkers usually only walk dogs rather than offering full overnight care. Walkers pick the dog up from their home and take them out for anywhere from 30 minutes up to a few hours at a time. You charge an hourly rate per dog and you can even offer additional services like feeding and collecting mail.

Is my profile different from a Sitter?

No, basic profile rules still apply. You have to list your space but you can mention in your profile that you are only interested in dog walking.

What kind of money can I make being a dog walker?

The rate you charge is entirely up to you! We recommend $10 - $20 per dog per hour and whatever rate you choose its all yours to keep, we don't take any commissions.

I run a dog walking business can I list my business on PetCloud?

Yes, you sure can. We do require that you join as an individual (using your own name rather than a business name) and to be fair to our other sitters we don't allow company websites to be listed.

What's required for me to join as a dog washer?

Most washers provide their own equipment such as shampoo, towels and other necessities but you are welcome to charge a lower rate in return for using the owner's supplies.

Is my profile different from a Sitter?

No, basic profile rules still apply. You have to list your space but you can mention in your profile that you are only interested in dog grooming.

I operate a doggy parlour, am I able to list on PetCloud?

Yes, though we do require you join as an individual (using your own name rather than a business name) and to be fair to our other washers we don't allow company URLs or logos to be displayed. PetCloud is a community built on personal relationships, and trust - so just use your face as our profile photo, not your business logo.

Are my credit card and other details secure?

We understand the importance of your personal information. We use industry-leading 256bit SSL encryption and our website is protected by GoDaddy, one of the most respected security brands on the internet.

Do I need to have a PayPal account?

Yes, you do. All payments are processed through PetCloud via PayPal and Pet Sitters receive their payment 24 hours after the stay ends. Petcloud deducts 19% from the payment made to the Sitters.
