This dog offers the best of both worlds that its parent breeds have to offer. Pomskies are small to medium size dogs that are bursting with energy and have a fun-loving personality.

Pomskies love people and will become a best friend to everyone in their family. This is a dog that will run around the yard and play all day and then snuggle on the couch with the family at night. These dogs are affectionate and gentle with everyone they meet. They do require a lot of attention and mental stimulation, so they do not get bored.

What do Pomskies Look Like?

Pomskies take on the best traits of their parents – the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian. Pomskies are medium size dogs that weigh in at 7 – 11kg and come in a variety of different colours. Their chest and underbelly are white, and their back can be brown, black, grey, or tan. The face and snout of a Pomsky strongly resembles that of their Husky bloodline, but their fur is soft and puffy like that of a Pomeranian. Most Pomskies have vibrant blue eyes and pointed ears.

How Do I Groom a Pomsky?

Pomskies have a long coat of soft hair that should be brushed at least once a week to get out dirt and grime. You should bathe your dog at least once a week to move the oils around and keep their skin clean.

Provide your Pomsky with plenty of chew toys to stimulate their mind and clean their teeth; periodic teeth brushing is also recommended. You can clean their ears with an ear cleaning solution made for dogs as you should not swab them out. Also, grind down your Pomskies nails every couple of weeks so they do not snag on carpet and furnishings.

What Makes Pomskies Special?

Pomskies are gaining popularity because they are a new breed of dog that is different and unique. They are beautiful dogs that make loyal companions and are a highly intelligent breed. Since the Pomsky is such a new breed, they are not specifically identified to have any show dog or working status, but are more of a designer dog for someone who wants to have an adorable little canine friend in their life.

Breeding Pomskies

When Pomskies are bred, a female Siberian Husky is inseminated with male Pomeranian sperm, but the reverse can never happen as Pomeranian dogs are too small to carry these puppies. Currently, it is nearly impossible for a Pomsky to mate with another Pomsky. These dogs should only be bred by responsible breeders to ensure the health and safety of the dogs.

Providing Your Pomsky with Plenty of Exercise

Pomskies are energetic dogs that should be given plenty of exercise. Daily walking is required along with play time with other dogs and their human family. Pomskies need to stay busy to keep their mind occupied or they will get bored and become destructive – digging holes in the yard, tearing up furniture, and getting into mischief.

How Do I Train my Pomsky?

Pomskies are an intelligent breed that are easy to train as long as you know how to do it. These dogs react best to positive reinforcement training complete with plenty of treats. Provide your dog with small treats to limit their caloric intake. If you need help training your Pomsky, PetCloud will connect you with a professional trainer in your area.

Is a Pomsky the Right Dog for Me?

Pomskies are energetic dogs that need a lot of attention and playtime with their human family. These dogs are ideal for those who live an active lifestyle or have kids in the home. Pomskies do well around other dogs, but have the tendency to chase after smaller animals, such as cats. If you get your Pomsky when he or she is a puppy, you can train them to be friendly around your other pets. This breed does well living in an apartment or a house with a yard as long as they have lots of activities to keep their mind busy as they can be destructive when they get bored.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pomskies

Are they barkers?

Pomskies will bark if they sense danger or are trying to get your attention. They can be trained to bark less during puppyhood.

How long do Pomskies live?

With the proper diet and plenty of exercise, your Pomsky should live a good long life. They live between 10 – 15 years.

Do Pomskies have health issues?

Later in life, Pomskies can develop hip dysplasia, which is common in medium to large size dogs. The Pomsky can develop eye health issues inherited from its Husky parent and skin issues inherited from its Pomeranian parent.

Are Pomskies Hypoallergenic?

People who have moderate to severe pet allergies should not live with a Pomsky as this breed has a double coat of hair, where one layer sheds away during the warm months of the year; this can cause coughing, sneezing, and other congestion issues.

Can Pomskies be left alone?

It has to be trained into them, but yes, Pomskies can be left home alone whilst you are at work. Separation training should begin when the dog is young and they should have plenty of toys to play with in your absence so they do not get into mischief.

Ready to Create your free Pet Profile?
PetCloud makes responsible Pet Care easy and is free to join. Keep track of your Pet’s Vaccinations, or annual checkups, store their Vet Certificate, even hire a Pet Sitter – all in your very own PetCloud!

Download IOS: https://apple.co/2PifzXs Android: https://bit.ly/3aFeK2m

Dazzling people with its bright blue eyes and adorable miniature Husky stature, the Pomsky is the ideal dog for anyone who is looking for a loving pet that that is beautifully unique.
