        1. Ensure Windows up high can\u2019t be accessed by nearby furniture<\/strong> to escape.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            \n
          1. Doors<\/strong> – Are there certain doors that must remain closed to keep the cat\/kitten secure? Will children or other family members remember and reliably stick to these rules?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
              \n
            1. Balcony bars are close enough together<\/strong> so visiting pets can\u2019t fall.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                \n
              1. Chocolate, chewing gum, products with artificial sweeteners<\/strong> are out of reach<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                  \n
                1. Front loading Clothes Dryers\/Washing Machines <\/strong>\u2013 ensure that pets don\u2019t curl up in clothing through an open door and then the machine switched on unknowingly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                    \n
                  1. Cleaning Products<\/strong> are out of reach<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                      \n
                    1. Hotplates \/Stoves \/Ovens are supervised<\/strong> when in use<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                        \n
                      1. Fish Tanks<\/strong> \u2013 is the Fish tank away from nearby lounges or benches that can be jumped up on to get to the fish tank?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                          \n
                        1. Cables<\/strong> \u2013 Check that electrical extension cables aren\u2019t being chewed on<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                            \n
                          1. Candles<\/strong> \u2013 ensure candles are supervised at all times. Blow them out when not in use<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                            1. Curtain cords<\/strong> \u2013 ensure bored pets don\u2019t swing from them and strangle themselves<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                \n
                              1. Christmas Tree lights and decorations<\/strong> \u2013 ensure bored pets don\u2019t chew them or swing from them<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                  \n
                                1.  Ventilation<\/strong> – If the house is relying on doors and windows to be closed to keep the cat\/kitten secure, will the room be too hot\/stuffy in summer?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                  Each pet minding situation needs to be individually assessed because what qualifies as adequate security for one pet may not be for another.  These are some common safety hazards. Be alert for other hazards that are not listed here.<\/p>\n
